Role: Technician – Equine

Location: Shuttleworth College – Old Warden

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £23,557 and £25,849 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

About the role:

We are currently seeking an Equine Technician to join our Animal Sciences department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Technician, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

• Equine Care & Yard Operations – Support the daily running of the Equine Unit by performing routine horse care tasks such as mucking out, grooming, feeding, and riding as directed.
• Student Supervision & Support – Supervise and assist students during practical yard duties, ensuring a high-quality, safe, and supportive learning environment.
• Facility & Event Support – Maintain equine facilities and equipment, assist with shows and events, and ensure all areas are clean, safe, and inspection-ready.
• Resource & Administrative Duties – Prepare teaching resources, maintain clerical records, support inspections and licensing, and contribute to recruitment and promotional activities.
• Compliance & Development – Uphold safeguarding, equality, and health & safety standards, while actively engaging in CPD, team meetings, and training relevant to the role.

About you:

• Qualifications & Experience – Holds a Level 3 qualification in Horse Management and BHS Stage 1 (or equivalent), with GCSEs in English and Maths or willingness to achieve Level 2, and relevant hands-on experience in equine care across varied settings.
• Equine Skills – Confident in riding and caring for a range of horses, maintaining high standards of welfare, and supporting veterinary and husbandry tasks as needed.
• Student & Team Support – Able to create a welcoming, supportive learning environment, communicate effectively, and contribute positively to team dynamics and student engagement.
• Professional Conduct – Demonstrates reliability, flexibility, and professionalism, with strong record-keeping skills and a commitment to promoting the College’s reputation and values.
• Flexibility & Compliance – Willing to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays; holds a valid driving licence and is open to gaining First Aid certification and supporting safeguarding and equality standards.
