Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield and Newcastle.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Curriculum Area Manager with management experience, ideally within the animal management, education sector to join our Animal Management team here at our York Campus with responsibility for our Wakefield and Saltaire site as well as the York team. This role will be working 37 hours a week on a permanent basis.
We are seeking an experienced individual who will be responsible for leading the department in fully delivering our strategic objectives within Animal Management. This is a key role in understanding and influencing the link between operations and strategy. Sector experience and knowledge specifically in delivering effective change and high quality curriculum will be beneficial.
The successful candidate will provide innovative strategic leadership, operational delivery and direction to the planning and development of provision of an exceptionally high standard that meets skills needs at a local, regional and national basis. This role will report to the Assistant Principal Curriculum.
Educated to degree level or above in a relevant subject, candidates should hold a teaching qualification. With excellent knowledge of developing and delivering a curriculum plan.

Main Purpose of the role
The role will combine leadership and management of a curriculum area(s), with requirement to contribute actively and flexibly to the overall management and administration of the college.
The CAM will provide innovative strategic leadership, operational delivery, and direction to the planning and development of provision of a high standard that meets the needs local, regional, and national skills, as well as employment priorities and national policies.
As a CAM, you will be responsible for the effective management of that curriculum areas’ full scope of delivery, including but not limited to oversight of, recruitment, funding, enrolment, retention, achievement, budgeting, performance, people, and partnership management.
You will have a strong understanding of what makes outstanding curriculum implementation and experience in consistently delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment.
Key Tasks / responsibilities:
All tasks to be carried out in a consistent manner with the corporation’s culture.
Ensure that all safeguarding requirements as outlined in the college safeguarding policy and associated procedures are fully embedded in the curriculum area, taking priority and comply fully with its requirements therein to safeguard and protect the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
Demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm to promote the principle of equality and diversity in employment and service delivery.
Ensure that the provision complies with the conditions, requirements and contractual obligations of the Education Skills Funding Agency and other funding bodies; where appropriate, fulfil our contracts with the respective local authorities; ensure that ILR (Individualised Learner Record) returns, reflect service delivery and that KPI (Key Performance Indicator) targets are achieved as per the curriculum plan.
Develop and resource the curriculum in line with college strategy, vision, and curriculum plan, contributing to the design and planning of programmes of study, including but not limited to, staffing and budget implications, sequencing of learning, timetabling, and selecting appropriate qualification pathways.
Stay abreast of all national and local changes in funding and policies and keep up to date with developments in service delivery and best practice to ensure the provision performs effectively and to the highest standards.
Take a lead in, and be accountable for, college business planning processes, proposing any ideas that may help to promote and extend the college’s reputation and efficient running of the College, and the realisation of the college purpose, vision, and mission.
To liaise and work effectively with the full range of support services to ensure marketing, enrolment and support, enhances the curriculum offering and successful recruitment against curriculum planning targets, including supporting planned marketing and promotional events.
To manage the relevant curriculum areas intent and curriculum implementation and be responsible for their successful delivery.
Have accountability and responsibility for the effective management of curriculum area budgets, ensuring their viability, contribution, value for money, and effectiveness, in line with the college strategy and curriculum plan.
To ensure all statutory, regulatory, and key operational issues related to the management of the curriculum across all areas of responsibility is adhered to. This includes effectively devising and mobilising appropriate timetables for all provision within the curriculum area, that fully comply with audit, legal, funding and quality compliance requirements.
Be accountable for the management of Health and Safety (H&S) within the curriculum area, liaising with Estates and H&S to ensure actions resulting from operational H&S tours are completed.
Actively seek, collate, and use student, parent, and employer voice/engagement to continuously improve the service offer and support the implementation of strategies resulting from satisfaction surveys.
To provide a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum intent that meets the needs of local, regional, and national skills and aligns to the College strategy and curriculum plan.
Ensure the efficient and effective management of the equipment and physical resources allocated to the curriculum area.
Work with existing external partners, also seeking additional partners to ensure that the curriculum continues to widen participation and respond to current and future challenges for the economy and environment.
Undertake such additional duties or projects as the executive leadership group may determine from time to time, after consultation with the post holder.
Achieve specific deliverables that may be unique to that curriculum area, as required to maintain compliance of that curriculum with all/any regulatory bodies.
Quality, Teaching and Learning
Monitor assessment and internal verification and coordinate the preparation and administration of EQA and other award bodies documentation in conjunction with the Quality department.
Oversee, ensure and be accountable for the full and consistent implementation of all the college Quality Assurance processes, and to plan on-going quality improvements that will result in the highest standards of student attendance, retention, completion, achievement, and progression, ensuring the curriculum areas meets the expectations of appropriate regulatory bodies (e.g., Ofsted or OfS (Office for Students)). This includes accountability and responsibility for the curriculum area QIP (Quality Improvement Plan), SAR (Self-Assessment Report) and Performance Review processes.
Working with the college Quality function, lead curriculum ‘deep dives’ in other curriculum areas as per the policy and procedure for the quality assurance of student progression and the delivery of TLA and be the nominee for the responsible curriculum area deep dives, responding to the outcomes of the process through appropriate action planning and interventions.
Ensure that all delivery teams, and in particular individual tutors are clear, focused and supported to be able to deliver high quality learning & teaching resulting in high retention and achievement rates for each funding stream throughout the curriculum area.
Ensure, where appropriate, initial assessments in digital skills, employability skills, literacy and numeracy are comprehensively completed and used to guide learners on to the most suitable programme for their ability.
Implement a wide range of teaching and student-centred learning strategies across the curriculum area that ensures the most effective learning, retention, achievement, and progression of students, as well as the most effective use of teaching time and other resources.
Ensure that students, and as appropriate parents and employers are fully aware of their progress through clear, active and purposeful ILPs and academic tutoring based on target setting principles to ensure that learner outcomes are achieved.
Promote positive behaviour of our students, using reward and recognition appropriately whilst also ensuring the effective discipline and management of students, undertaking student disciplinary in accordance with the college policy where required, and keeping appropriate records and referral to other agencies where necessary.
Ensure the recording and maintenance of appropriate records including tutorials, ILPs, learning agreements, registers and profiling documents are recorded and kept in accordance with college’s requirements.
Ensure Learning Support is effectively integrated into courses in order that the work may be contextualised to the vocational area where appropriate.
Secure high-quality teaching and learning within the curriculum area and promote continuous improvement in the standards of learning and progress for all students.
Where required, be able to provide high-quality cover teaching.
People
Reporting line management of curriculum team leaders, coordinators, and curriculum/support colleagues (depending upon size and complexity of curriculum area), whilst also working closely with internal stakeholders (Exams, Student Records, Finance, People Services, Quality, MIS, Marcomms, etc.)
To implement an effectively maintain a model of high standards, professionalism and positive culture through strong leadership and building effective, efficient, flexible, and capable curriculum delivery teams ensuring the achievement of the curriculum areas specific targets and KPI’s in support of the college's strategy and curriculum plans.
Liaise with the Head of People Services and People Services Business Partners, to ensure effective recruitment, deployment, development, and management of the performance of colleagues within the curriculum area.
Use a variety of performance measures, individual meetings, objectives and appraisals to identify training, CPD and broader workforce development needs of colleagues and work with appropriate internal and external partners to facilitate colleagues upskilling.
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) and Legal Compliance
Be accountable for compliance with data sharing, use and storage within the curriculum area and where appropriate, across wider college.
Ensure that all relevant policies and procedures relating to the curriculum area are up to date and accurate.
Work with the Director of Governance to ensure that the college maintains legal compliance in all aspects of the curriculums provision.
Ensure compliance with, and effective management of, any additional contracts that relate to services provided within or for the curriculum area.
