We have an exciting opportunity for a Digital Teaching, Learning and Innovation Lead to join the quality team at Askham Bryan College.



The role of Digital Teaching, Learning and Innovation Lead offers a fantastic opportunity for the right person to be a key part of realising our vision, making a real difference to the Askham Bryan community and improving the experience and outcomes of our students.

We are seeking a passionate and driven individual who will be responsible for (delivering digital innovation and improvement in teaching and learning across college). Sector experience and knowledge specifically in (Digitally transforming teaching and learning) would be beneficial.

The successful candidate will continue the excellent digital work already happening at the college and research and implement new and innovative teaching strategies, enabling action learning across the organisation and lead supporting the practice of both new and established teachers.

With experience in digital teaching and learning, you will be a highly skilled practitioner, able to drive forward interventions that promote a culture of excellence.

Main Purpose of the role

You will drive digital and innovation in teaching, learning and assessment across the college, inspiring others and supporting a high-performance innovative teaching and learning culture. You will champion our five digital principles, which include continuing to advance our centre of excellence in mixed reality, take forward Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the curriculum, support teachers, students, and the college infrastructure to prepare for a BYOD culture, ensure our systems are accessible and finally support with subject specialist digital equipment such as drones, Internet of things and robotics. Reporting to the Assistant Principal for Quality and Performance, you will work in harmony with our Advanced Teaching and Learning Coaches and the Head of Quality to continuously improve the overall Quality of Education at the College, providing the best possible experience and outcomes for all students. You will also work with the Head of IT, Head of MIS and our Legal and Compliance Advisor to make sure that our workflows are harmonised, and everyone is contributing to achieving the 5 digital principles we have at the college. This role will have a small amount of line management and budgetary responsibility.

Key Tasks / responsibilities:

Leadership & Management

Lead on innovation in teaching, learning and digital delivery supporting the practice of new and established teachers
Be an advocate for creative and exciting practitioners, leading and enabling others to improve and excel.
Have difficult conversations when required and contribute to developing a supportive and ambitious teaching culture
Represent the department internally and externally and develop and facilitate strong links with stakeholders.
Work with external stakeholders to link education and employment providing sessions to externals on the progress at Askham Bryan College.
Support with funded applications bringing them to life and driving their use in the college.
Line manage the e-learning co-ordinators and support the return of a balanced budget.


Teaching, Learning and Assessment Management



Research and implement new and innovative/ digital teaching strategies, enabling action learning across the organisation.
Monitor and promote best practice in the industry, developing your own skills and enabling curriculum areas to practice and hone their skills.
Organise and deliver training to cascade teaching improvement and innovation across the organisation, supporting a culture of exceptional teaching performance.
Be instrumental in the implementation of the teaching and learning and digital practices in harmony with our policies and also our quality first teaching framework.
Support teaching, learning & assessment by the development and deployment of high-quality resources and maintaining effective links across College.
Model exemplary digital and e-learning practices encouraging others to adopt similar practice
Deliver digital components on the Askham Bryan Educator programme to a high standard, leading by example.
Take our products to market, monitoring and driving up use and impact.
Contribute to the creation of digital content, including video production, VR/ AR content creation, Self-paced learning resources through Nearpod, resources and guides for students and teachers in a mixed media formats.
Role Dimensions

Participate in professional development activities as required.
Support the department in the planning and preparation of cross-college events and other marketing activities. (This includes occasional weekend working to promote digital at our open events)
Key Interfaces

Liaison with Head of Departments, Curriculum Area Managers and Curriculum Team Leaders across the college.
Other central College teams, e.g. Quality, MIS, Marketing, Student Services, Estates, People Services, IT and Finance.
Partnerships – Local Enterprise Partnerships, IOT, LSIF, Funding Agencies, Awarding Bodies.
